Pete Calcutt is a British Army veteran with 22 years’ service under his belt.
He subsequently founded PJC Woodcraft after purchasing his first lathe eight years ago and now spends his time expertly working with wood: crafting stunning decorative and practical items from raw lump of tree trunk to finished item.
Pete’s rediscovered creative talents have taken wood carving from a hobby first taken up 40 years ago, to a superb small one-man artisan craft business.
He is thoroughly enjoying his new career: having time to create and experiment with different woods and the craft of woodturning. He sources wood locally (from either North Somerset or Dorset) and has good links with tree surgeons, thus continuing to care for our environment.
It's always sad when a tree has to come down; but Pete ensures that something of beauty can be made from it - a living legacy and a beautiful tribute to the tree.
Every piece of wood is unique. Pete decides on what form to make depending on the individual qualities inherent in each particular piece of wood.
His popular forms range from small items such as bowls, chopping boards vases, coasters and candlesticks; to much larger creations including benches, lamps and unique objects d’art. He also welcomes you to call for an informal discussion about any commission ideas you may have.
